A special treat: Kaytranada in South Africa on Timeless Tour

FRESH off a warm reception in Cape Town, Haitian DJ Kaytranada will continue his Timeless tour at the second leg of the US-based Milk and Cookies Festival, at Huddle Park, in Johannesburg on January 11.

The Grammy award winning producer returned to the southernmost tip in Africa as a headliner for the debut of the Milk & Cookies Festival, a new festival from the city of Atlanta, United States.

The festival has a two-leg run in South Africa, which started in Cape Town on January 6, and will conclude in a sold-out show in Johannesburg, whereafter Kaytranada heads to Australia for the continuation of his Timeless tour in the southern hemisphere.

The Milk & Cookies Festival is spotlighting music, culture, and technology across the two South African cities, with a vibrant lineup of thought-provoking panels and exclusive merch pop-ups that spotlight African talent and foster cross-cultural collaborations.

Started by four college friends in the United States with a passion for music, the company has a rich history of working with top-tier artists like Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, and Summer Walker, and has partnered with Fortune 500 companies including Meta, Porsche, and Redbull.

“Bringing Milk + Cookies to South Africa is more than an expansion—it’s a celebration of culture, unity, and the universal language of music.” said a spokesperson for Milk & Cookies.

“We believe that South Africa’s dynamic cultural scene and its storied history provide the perfect setting for this milestone event. Our festival has always been about more than music; it’s about community, connection, and celebrating the unique cultures that connect us all.

“We’re excited to join hands with South African artists and audiences to create unforgettable moments together.”

Following the Cape Town leg, Kaytranada posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he was eager to see how the Johannesburg leg would turn out after the warm reaction from Cape Town.

“Cape Town went absolutely crazy for me and people be telling me wait till you get to Johannesburg??? Whatchu mean???” he wrote on a post.

The festival’s arrival in South Africa was off the tails of another Afrobeats festival, Jerk x Jollof, that had its debut in Cape Town in January, featuring a headline performance by British artist Odeal, Ghana’s DJ Spinall, SARZ, and South African DJing talents DBN Gogo and Uncle Waffles.

Additional acts set to perform at the Johannesburg leg of the Milk + Cookies festival include American DJ Kitty Cash and South African DJs Morda, DJ Lag, Thakzin, Desiree, Muzi, Shamiso, Yolophonik, Mamthug, and 2Shoes.

The last time Kaytranada performed in South Africa was as a headliner at the 2018 Afropunk festival that took place at Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg. While tickets for the main festival are sold out, tickets for the festival’s official after party with Kaytranada in Johannesburg are still on sale.
