PRESIDENT William Ruto has declared that Kenya’s future is digital, pledging to establish digital hubs in every village across the country. These hubs, he says, will create thousands of jobs during the digital revolution that will be rolled out nationwide.
“The government will spare no effort in creating job opportunities for young people,” President Ruto stated, emphasizing that a long-term solution to unemployment in Kenya lies in equipping youth with technology skills to meet current job market demands.
The President explained that going digital will be a game-changer in transforming the economy, creating much-needed jobs, and driving financial and economic inclusion. “The scaling up of competency-based learning in our country is geared towards improving technical knowledge among our youth, boosting their employability,” he said.
This initiative aims to provide young people with access to digital services, skills, and opportunities to leverage technology for job creation. “We are also modernising and equipping our technical, vocational education and training colleges to meet the market needs,” President Ruto added.
The remarks came during his third day of a working tour in Nairobi County, covering Dagoretti South, Dagoretti North, and Westlands constituencies. He was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Governor Johnson Karanja, MPs, and MCAs.
Speaking at PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute, the President described how ICT hubs would serve as training centres where young people can acquire technological knowledge and connect to online jobs. He also highlighted the Affordable Housing Programme and Climate Works Mtaani Initiative as additional job-creating programs.
President Ruto expressed satisfaction with the economic impact of affordable housing, universal healthcare, online jobs, agricultural production, and infrastructure development on Kenyans’ lives.
During the launch of construction for the KSh350 million Riruta Modern Market, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to serving all Kenyans without discrimination. “We will work and serve all Kenyans diligently irrespective of their region, religion or ethnicity. That is our pledge,” he stated.
The President also laid the foundation stone for the Dagoretti Jitume Centre of Excellence and commended MPs for improving teaching and learning facilities in Nairobi County schools. He noted that the government had allocated KSh1 billion to Nairobi’s 17 constituencies for constructing 500 classrooms.
“The classrooms we are building guarantee our children a better learning environment that will enable them to fulfil their potential,” President Ruto said, expressing concern about children out of school in Nairobi County due to classroom shortages.
Deputy President Kindiki urged leaders to support initiatives that impact Kenyans’ lives, while Nairobi Governor Sakaja called on residents to reject leaders who divide Kenyans along tribal lines.
